    Coaching

Any persons looking to coach, for the upcoming year, will be required to complete a coaching application (available on the website at time of registration).

    Convenors

Organizing hockey takes a significant amount of time and energy.  We rely on volunteers and convenors to make hockey work within our community.

Below is a short synopsis of the role of the convenor under the new Association.

    The convenor,

    • organizes the groups for tryouts using the master registration list and informs the parent's of skate times
    • runs off ice portion of tryouts (pinnie assignment, collection of evaluations etc.)
    • works with the independent evaluation team during tryouts
    • informs parent's if their child makes/does not make A1 & A2
    • helps run team formation meeting
    • runs the 4x4 program for their age group (set up groups, assign ice times, hand out jerseys at first game) The plan is to have potential coaches run the actual games.
    • attends the initial team meetings to ensure the parent reps are selected appropriately and answer any parent questions during the initial team meeting.
    • disseminates information as needed.
    • serves as the Association first point of contact for the coaches, parent reps throughout the year
    • during September the convenor role usually involves 4-8 hours a week with some administrative time and some time at the rink.

For 5/6 and 7/8 House league, the convenors under direction of the VPs House league Houseleague will run the league and 4x4 camps.  The convenors with the assistance of potential coaches for the year will run evaluation, and oversee team selectionsHouse league The Houseleague convenors are heavily involved with the organization of the Christmas tournament.

For the remainder of convenors, as kids are trying out for different tiers of hockey, the Association is committed to providing transparency and fairness in this process.   As a result, the convenor role will be to implement the evaluation system developed by the Association under the direction of the corresponding VPs.   The evaluation system uses independent evaluators for tryouts that determine what level a child plays at (A1, A2 or A3).   The results of the evaluations will be tabulated by an independent group of volunteers.
